Kentia Palm.....
Butler's offers Kentia palms grown in California and
in Hawaii. Why do we carry palms from so far away? Quite simply
because of the south Florida growing climate. We're able to grow
a wide range of plants in south Florida but because of the heat
Kentias have a tendency to stress and end up growing as wide as
they are tall.
Most of our interiorscape clients demand a Kentia
that is narrow and has more of an upright look in most applications.
There is a difference between the Cal-Palm Kentia
and the Hawaiian grown Kentia. This difference is in the soil. Keeline
Wilcox uses a clay like soil that holds much more water than the
peat/lava mix from Hawaii. But the same rules apply
never
let your Kentia dry out.
The most frequent calls we get asking for help is
regarding the lower leaves turning yellow. Palms drop their lower
leaves when they get dry in order to survive.
Keep in mind that Kentias only have an average of
six fronds per palm. Loose one frond on each palm and it changes
the look of the plant significantly. Sub irrigation systems are
a great means to avoid drying out.
